HAYLE AREA PLAN

Summary of Progress so far:

Heritage & Environment: - Chairman Frank Scott Mance

  • Tony Walden addressed the last meeting updating progress on Townscape projects.
  • Walkway around Copperhouse Pool still under discussion, contacting the opposition group.
  • Tom King and Georgina Schofied to produce a proposal of more commemorative plaques, including design and wording, to the next meeting.
  • They will also seek funding for illustrative murals.
  • Arranged for the subject of Debris on the beach to be on the Harbour Advisory Board meeting.
  • Arranged for Beach access to be discussed at next Towans partnership.
  • Next meeting will address the issue of ?culture?/events. David Scott and interested parties to attend.
  • Save.Our.Sand. have joined this delivery group.
  • It has been proposed to create sub group from all Delivery groups to look at Footpaths in the Plan area.


Traffic and Transport ? Chairman Joe Colliver

  • Are working with Townscape and CC to develop the cycle way at Black Road.
  • Have supported the Park & Ride scheme at St. Erth.
  • Participated in the Rural Transport Forum ?particularly concerned about Bus Stops in Hayle.
  • Looking at developing the cycle path between the viaduct and East Quay.
  • Last meeting discussed traffic congestion in the town and possible new junction at Tolroy and was addressed by Mike Peters (CCC Divisional Surveyor)
  • The Town Forum Streetscape group has been subsumed into this Delivery Group.

Community Well Being. Chairman John Coombe

  • The group had received talks from Watersports Centre, Carew House and the Activity/Sports Centre. Tatia Mitchell (PDC) is preparing an assessment of these projects so that officers can discuss similarities/differences and opportunities for joint working before sharing the findings with the groups themselves.
  • There had been two good discussions on Youth Projects and they were on the next agenda (12/06/07).
  • They promoted an Affordable Housing Information Evening - the Penwith Team had done a great job but there was a poor turnout and we failed to attract those to whom affordable housing is most relevant.

Business & Enterprise. Chairman John Nunn

  • A proposal for a Penwith Extreme Sports Centre of excellence is under consideration (Next Meeting)
  • Hayle Area Web Site/ Branding. progressing under Chris Head and Martin Nixon .
  • Group following up the ideas of a mobile Hayle Promotion Centre and a centre for Alternative Energy
  • Economy ? Group very concerned about promoting business in the Town and seeking more investment. The group discussed the issue with Rachel Cresswell of Cornwall Pure Business and Charlotte Chadwick (PDC)


Tourism and Sustainability. ? Jacqui Head is maintaining a watching brief

  • Penwith may offer to do a sustainability appraisal of the Plan.
  • This heading crosses all the others and Tourism particularly linked with the Business Group
